If the weather changes

Rain on the roof, nowhere to be.

Spring weather changes quickly. Keep a slow day in reserve: village galleries, a long lunch, then books and the gas fireplace at the house. Check current hours before visiting anywhere.

Spring in Stowe: FAQ

What is mud season?

Mud season is the spring thaw, usually around April and into May, when dirt roads and trails turn soft and muddy. Some trails close to protect them, so check before you hike and pack boots you don't mind getting dirty.

Is there still skiing in spring?

Often, yes. Stowe Mountain Resort is 7 miles from the house, under 15 minutes by car. Closing dates depend on the snow each year, so check the resort's site for what is open.

What can we do on a rainy spring day?

Take a Ben and Jerry's factory tour in Waterbury, a few minutes from the house (book ahead), swim indoors at The Swimming Hole, bowl at Stowe Bowl, or browse the Round Hearth Cafe and Market Place.

When does the Stowe Farmers Market open?

It runs every Sunday, typically from mid-May to mid-October, 10 AM to 2 PM at the Topnotch Event Field on Mountain Road.

What time are check-in and check-out?

Check-in is at 4 PM and check-out is at 11 AM, with self check-in using a smart lock.

There is free driveway parking for 3 to 4 cars, and the entry has storage for skis, boots, bikes and other gear.
